Norma Lovelace Obituary

N. Jean Lovelace, 84, passed away on March 27,  2024 in Mescalero, New Mexico.  She was born on August 19,1939 in
Alamogordo, New Mexico to Archie and Lovie Cape.

She met Willis Holt Lovelace while attending school in Corona, New Mexico and they married in August of 1955. They lived in Farmington and Portales, New Mexico before settling down on the Lovelace Ranch in Corona. Jean learned to be a ranchers' wife with help from the neighboring ranch friends. She worked alongside Holt branding cattle, marking lambs, feeding the extra help, and whatever else came her way.  She was instrumental in starting the Corona cheerleading program while she was still in school. She was a member of Beta Sigma Fi and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She started a 4-H club in Corona and held meetings in her home at the ranch headquarters.  She had her own sheep program with the lambs that she raised from the orphan lambs on the ranch.  After Holt and Jean divorced, she moved to High Rolls, New Mexico, eventually marrying Glendon "Doc" Baird. Jean is a lifetime member of Rebekah and was also the local president of Alamogordo Oddfellows. She also created and designed several welding products, resulting in the opportunity to open an online business, selling multiple products that supported her until she had to retire in 2016.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Lovie Cape; daughter, Wynn King; grandson, Justin King; great grandson, Hayden King; and nephew, Lane Cape.

She is survived by her brother, Dave Cape and his wife, Mary Jane of San Juan, TX; daughter, Lynn Lovelace of Ruidoso, NM; son, Noel Lovelace and his wife, Rhonda of Horatio, AR; daughter, Glenda Juarez and her husband, Toby of Alamogordo, NM; daughter, Raye Kincade of Hutchison, KS; niece, Stacey Woolridge of Albuquerque, NM; eleven grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
